welcome to the farm

We are God-fearing, imperfect, loving, crazy, passionate people who have recently taken up the call to homestead. This page seeks to bring you along with us as we dive into a new-to-us lifestyle. Here, we will share our experiences of God’s provision in our lives as we strive to steward all that He has given us. Join us as we try, fail, succeed, and learn how to be first generation farmers.

Hello neighbors!

Meet our Family

Superman

Husband and Dad, known here as Superman because there is seemingly nothing he cannot do. He works a full-time job to support our homeschool and homestead, makes hay when the sun shines, leads the charge on home renovations, and pours his heart and soul into his family. He deserves superhero status.

Me

Hi there! In addition to authoring this site, I am Mom and wife, homeschooler of our 5 amazing gifts from God, and the ring leader of our circus. Here on the farm, I am in charge of the gardening and food preservation, animal health, and keeping the projects moving along.

Speedy

The oldest kiddo. He is passionate about farming, both real and simulated versions of it. He has dreams of becoming a game developer to share his love of farming with people who do not get to experience it firsthand, that they may get to do so virtually. His homestead goal is to manage our chickens, both meat and egg laying.

Fergy

Short for Massey Ferguson, his favorite tractor brand, this sweet blue eyed boy has a knack for all things mechanical. He has taken on the roles of 4 wheeler mechanic and junior electrician. He also helps Speedy with the chickens and enjoys spending time in the woods.

G.I. Joe

The youngest brother and middle child. That’s probably self-explanatory, but in case it isn’t this guy is the perfect mix of sweet and mischievous. He cannot wait for the day we dig a pond so he can fish and kayak. His dream job on the farm is raising pigs, which we are finally able to do this year.

Pippi

Our beautiful tomboy and older twin. She is certain of who she is and we love that about her. She can just as easily hang with her sister as she can with all her brothers. She loves sitting and talking to the goats and avoiding all farm chores.

Tiny Tot

The baby and younger twin, the ultimate girly-girl. She is sassy and commanding, and does not let all those older siblings stop her from having a say. She loves all animals dearly and is always ready to help out when they need something.

ABOUT US

Our story starts about 16 years ago, with a college Chemistry course and some cheesy pick-up lines. Suffice it to say, we had one of those whirlwind romances that you know without a doubt is the kind to last forever. We didn’t want that to go to waste, so just over a year after meeting, we were married. Our first son followed a few years later, and before we knew it, we were outnumbered 5 to 2. We were content with life. We had our dream home in a gorgeous neighborhood in the suburbs, a great backyard with a creek for the kids to explore, nearby shopping and restaurants, and a 20 minute commute for Superman to get to work. Then the coronavirus came and forced Superman to work from home. We had it better than most. We were already homeschooling and only bought groceries every 2 weeks because we developed a meal plan system that planned that far ahead. Daily life didn’t change, with the exception of Superman being home with us. That’s when this journey began. He suddenly had all this extra time that he didn’t know how to fill, and he grew restless. What to do? He began reading and listening to podcasts and fell upon a farmer by the name of Joel Salatin. The seeds of farming were planted. Before long, he knew that this wasn’t just one of his crazy scatter-brained ideas (he is well-known for those around here), but a real nudging to step away from the comfort of home and do something more. After almost 2 years of searching, we found it—our new farm. The sellers were Amish, so we knew it would be an adventure, but nonetheless, we sold our beautiful home and moved into our new house to begin the journey of God’s providence as farmers. In these pages, you will find stories and photos of what this change looks like, from home renovation/restoration to raising animals and teaching children. We hope you find it educational and encouraging. Thanks for your love and support!
