getting somewhere
The floor is in, the walls are oiled and chinked, now it’s time to…work on the shower! Woohoo! We did a shower remodel at our old house that turned out absolutely gorgeous, especially for novices like us. But because we had never done it before, there was a lot of hesitation, mentally and physically. We had decided to use Kerdi to waterproof that shower, which we had never used before. Superman is super smart and likes to completely understand how products work before using them. For me, it was kind of frustrating after buying it and just staring at it sitting there. I just wanted to get something on the walls! He had even sworn off ever buying it again because it did not make sense that a fabric could prevent water from seeping through. Eventually though, he watched a video (thank you, internet!) to educate himself on the science of it, and the shower was installed. Frustratingly, we moved a few months later [insert crying and/or laughing here].
Fast forward to the new house, and Superman did not hesitate to purchase Kerdi again. So, after framing in the shower, we got to work. Just kidding! They sent us the wrong size kit. So do we wait longer to get the right size or expand the shower?
We are not the most patient people, plus we were on a roll. We decided to expand the shower to fit the larger kit. It left a little less floor space in the room, but it’s a bathroom, how much floor space do you really need?
Aside from forgetting to turn off the water after testing the plumbing, then bumping the lever and soaking himself, Superman installed the Kerdi membrane without any trouble this time! Now it’s time for a 24-hour water test to make sure the pan holds water without leaking. Wish us luck!
